Meeting Minutes – December 2, 2008

Judy Henry called the meeting to order at 9:30 am, with the following in attendance:  Stacey Esterly, Justine Bachman, Angie Jones, Trish Brinley, Amanda Wilson, Rebecca Bell, Jill Berlet, Michael Turk, Julie Seyfried, Becky Hancock, Jennifer Bernhard, Wendy Wolbert, Jenn Rader, Jen Lowthert, Jeannine Leonard, Jessica Boushell and Maggi Daly.

MINUTES FROM OCTOBER, 2008 – The minutes were reviewed.  A motion to accept was made by Mrs. Brinley with a second by Maggi Daly.

TREASURER’S REPORT – Mary Norman noted the report does not include the latest Market Day or Boxtops numbers which will be available next month.  Stacey Esterly made a motion to accept the minutes and Maggi Daly provided a second.

MARKET DAY – The program has been running quite well.  Last evening brought in around $600, bringing the total to $1952 to date.  There were two no-shows and some left over cookie dough.

MRS BERLET – Movie Night, planned for December 5th, will provide a showing of Disney’s ‘Snow Buddies’ in the Elementary School Gym.  The Library is now open, and plans are being made for its dedication on March 31st.  December 11th will be the 4th grade concert in the Gym and December 17th will be Kindergarten Grandparents’ Day.  This year there will be two shows – for AM and PM.  Both will take place in the High School Auditorium.

Mary Norman suggested a goal should be set for Market Day earnings, which brought up a discussion regarding a stage for the gym.  Mrs. Berlet noted the High School has a portable stage, originally purchased for graduations, which would be available for Elementary School use.  A skirting would need to be purchased.  Also mentioned was a request by Mr. Fies for appropriate lighting should a stage be obtained.

UPCOMING EVENTS

HOLIDAY SHOPPE – Will take place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, December 8th to 10th.

BOXTOPS – Thanks to all clippers and counters!  Boxtops submitted $1182-worth of labels at the end of October.  Check should be received by the school by end December or early January.  Justine noted the teachers would like their boxtop collection bags returned asap.

MOVIE NIGHT – Disney’s ‘Snow Buddies’ (Rated G) to be shown in the gym on Friday, December 5th at 6:30pm.  Tickets ($1) have been printed and currently on sale through the day of the show.  Popcorn and water will be sold at $.50.  Mrs. Berlet approved a half-page reminder flyer to be distributed on Thursday.  We are looking at 3 more nights this year, with a suggestion that the proceeds go toward filling the empty shelves in the Library.

COOKIES & COCOA – December 23th.  Mrs. Berlet will be reading.  It will actually be cocoa, but no cookies.

NOVEMBER EVENTS

TEACHER DINNER – Thanks to all who contributed.  Mrs. Brinley gave a hearty thank you on behalf of the teachers.  The food was delicious, and the ambience was great. It was much appreciated.

YEARBOOK – Judy is seeking more pictures for the yearbook to be emailed to Nancy Zellner.  Meetings are Mondays at 6:30pm.

CLOTHING DRIVE – Maggi Daly thanked those who donated, who oversaw the collections, and Mrs. Brinley and the fourth grade for a great job in transferring the bags from the gym to the collection van.  Stacy Hein provided the contact legwork for the program and will be receiving the weight and amount within a few weeks.

ROUND TABLE –

Maggi Daly suggested it would be nice to do something on behalf of PIE and the students for the bus drivers.  Two years ago, PIE hosted a breakfast and delivered hand-made greeting cards from the kids, which was well-received and appreciated.   It was decided that PIE would provide cookies, and children would make cards for the drivers.  Several PIE members offered to assist and a date was set to distribute.  Mrs. Brinley will discuss at the Dec. 8th faculty meeting and organize the card-making.

Justine Bachman explained PTO Manager, a nation-wide web-based volunteer system that would save time and provide an easy on-line organizer for events.  Weisenberg uses the program. PIE now has a 30-day trial which will end soon.  Maggi made a motion to subscribe to the program and Becky Hancock seconded the motion.

Becky Hancock made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Stacey Esterly seconded.  As all were in favor, the meeting was adjourned at approximately 10:30 am.
