PARTNERS IN EDUCATION (PIE)
MINUTES OF MEETING – April 1, 2009
MINUTES FROM FEBRUARY – Stacy Hein presented the minutes from the March meeting, all present reviewed. Maggi Daly made a motion to accept, Wendy Wolbert seconded. All were in favor.
TREASURER’S REPORT – Mary Norman reviewed the treasurer’s report. Maggi Daly made a motion to accept, Jessica B. seconded. All were in favor.
MRS. BERLET– Mrs. Berlet thanked everyone for their help with the Dedication, she was very happy with the outcome of the day. School updates included: upcoming events (kindergarten registration, Spring pictures, Literary Arts Night, book fair, 4th grade PSSAs, 3rd grade musical on 4/30, book bingo, which will be moved to May, and movie night on 5/1). The student art fundraiser appears to have gone well, total tallies are not available yet, but she will let us know when they are.
UPCOMING EVENTS –
LITERARY ARTS NIGHT – Mrs. Berlet verified that PIE will be able to use the kitchen for food, and that teachers will be available to help. Baking donations are still needed.
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION – Judy Henry reported that all volunteer slots have been filled. This event is going on today through 4/3. Everything is going smoothly so far.
SPRING PICTURES – Becky Hancock is chairing this event. 3 volunteers were needed and all slots have been filled.
MARKET DAY – The next pick-up date is 4/7. $2,000 in sales are reported for this month, which is only a $200 profit. Mary Norman suggested that we review this fundraiser to determine whether it will be worth continuing for next school year. Marketing tactics were briefly discussed.
SPRING BOOK EXCHANGE – This event will take place from 4/20 – 4/24. Mary Norman is chairing this event and she reported that the informational form for parents will be sent home in a few days. Collection will occur on 4/16 and 4/17. Volunteers will be needed. A sign-up sheet was circulated.
MOVIE NIGHT – Maggi Daly noted that the third movie night this year took place on 3/27. 125 tickets were sold and $143.00 in food was also sold. The next movie night is planned for 5/1. Maggi will also advertise the clothing drive (which is the following day) with this movie night.
BEE ASSEMBLY – Justine Bachman announced that this assembly will occur on 4/16. Volunteers are needed. A sign-up sheet was circulated.
SPRING
STAFF APPRECIATION LUNCHEON – Kelley Andreus is chairing this event with Mary Norman. The event is planned for 5/5, with a Cinco de Mayo theme. Donations of food and volunteers will be needed.
HEALTHY LIFESTYLE LUNCHEON – Justine Bachman reported that the Food in our Schools committee has applied for a grant that will allow the cafeteria to offer healthier options for lunches. If this grant money is received in time, a luncheon will be planned to kick-off the program. Volunteers will be needed – more information will follow.
FUN DAY AND ELEMENTARY CHALLENGE – Fun Day will occur on 5/19, with a rain date of 5/20, and Elementary Challenge will occur on 5/27, with a rain date of 5/28. Volunteers will be needed, and Justine will be coordinating them soon.
MARCH EVENTS
BOXTOPS – Maggi Daly reported that there was a submission at the end of February totaling $938.20. New marketing strategies will be reviewed to revitalize this program for next year, as total income for this fundraiser is down from last year.
SCHOOL DEDICATION – This event was a huge success. Clips were on 69 news last night and this morning. All volunteers were where they were asked to be, children were on their best behavior, and all went well. 101 people accessed the event online.
PSSA SNACKS – Trish Brinley asked PIE to thank all the volunteers who helped distribute snacks for PSSA testing.
ROUNDTABLE
Judy Henry noted that she will be scheduling a date for skating night, and Becky Hancock will coordinate the volunteers. Flyers will be sent home soon.
Mary Norman reviewed money available for school gifts, assemblies and the 4th grade field trip for this school year. $1500 is budgeted for the 4th grade trip, which will be to the Coal Mine in May. There is one more assembly scheduled so far this year, and PIE will contribute a portion of the cost. Judy Henry reviewed needs for school gifts, which included stop watches (one per classroom), a G Bar and C Bar for Mr. Fies’ xylophone, headphones for the computer lab, blinds for the library, and games requested by 2nd grade. All were in favor of purchasing the headphones, G Bar and C Bar for the xylophone, and the games for 2nd grade. Stop watches and blinds for the library will be researched further.
Justine Bachman announced that renovations are being reviewed by the school board for the Middle School. Moving help is being solicited from all 3 PTO’s for packing of classrooms during the entire week of May 18 – 22.
Judy Henry noted that we are still accepting volunteers for officer positions for the 2009-2010 school year.
