PARTNERS IN EDUCATION (PIE)

MINUTES OF MEETING – September 10, 2008

 

Judy Henry called the meeting to order at 9:34 a.m.  In attendance were:  Rebecca Bell, Jen Lowthert, Wendy Wolbert, Jessica Boushell, Wendy Moseback, Jenniferd Bernhard, Jen Clouser, Stacey Esterly, Maggi Daly, Kelly Andreus, Trisha Brinley, Amanda Wilson, Jill Berlet, Noel McDonnell, Jennifer Rader, Angie Jones, Tammy Dorney, Mary Norman, Judy Henry, Justine Bachman, Stacy Hein.

 

VOLUNTEER MEETING – Volunteer opportunities were discussed during the volunteer portion of the meeting.  Justine Bachman, Volunteer Coordinator, discussed procedures for contacting volunteers for events.  119 volunteer forms were received so far this year.  New Chairs for events this year will include:  Maggi Daly for Movie Night and Kelly Andreus for Spring Staff Appreciation.

 

MINUTES FROM MAY, 2008 – Those in attendance reviewed the minutes of the May, 2008 meeting.  Maggi Daly made a motion to accept, Becci Bell seconded.  All were in favor.

 

TREASURER’S REPORT – Mary Norman reviewed the treasurer’s report.  Maggi Daly made a motion to accept, Jen Clouser seconded.  All were in favor.

 

BUDGET – Mary Norman presented the 2008-2009 budget.  Maggi Daly made a motion 

to accept the budget, Kelly Andreus seconded.  All were in favor.

 

MRS. BERLETT– Mrs. Berlet reviewed the drop-off/pick-up procedures and thanked everyone for their cooperation.  Some volunteer opportunities presented by Mrs. Berlet include:  a copy team, comprised of 1-2 people for each grade level with rotating schedules and convenient time slots and the homeroom parent program.  Please let Justine or the office know if interested in these opportunities.  Also, she noted that peanut allergies are a serious concern this year.  Please be aware of ingredients when sending in birthday treats.  A dedication for the school is tentatively planned for October 30.  More information will follow.  Some events to be included in the dedication will be a time capsule with a contribution from each class, a slide show and ribbon cutting ceremony.  The community will be invited to attend, and the library is scheduled to be completed by this time.  A final point made by Mrs. Berlet is that she would like to work toward bringing Northwestern families into the school.  Welcome Mrs. Berlet!

 

UPCOMING EVENTS –

 

BOXTOPS – Maggi Daly reviewed the Boxtops program and suggested that we revitalize the program and invited ideas from the group.  Noel McDonnell agreed to be Kindergarten coordinator for the program.  A goal for the program will be discussed and a committee formed in upcoming weeks.

 

KIDSTUFF – Kidstuff books will be distributed on 9/15 to classrooms.  Kelly Andreus noted that volunteers will be needed for this distribution at 9:30 am.  There will be an opt-out option this year for families that wish to donate the $12.50 to PIE but do not need a book.

 

 

MARKET DAY – The first delivery for Market Day will be on 10/7.  A flyer will be distributed shortly.  An open house sample table will be set up.  Mary Norman stated that money has been budgeted to purchase two carts for delivery days and for samples for marketing purposes.  7-10 volunteers will be needed each month for this event to cover two shifts, 4-5 or 5-6PM.  Also, volunteers will be needed for making phone calls the night before pickup.  A goal for the proceeds of Market Day should be established in coming weeks.  Trish Brinley will email staff about also helping on Market Day delivery days and also about adding a note to their classroom newsletters for parents to participate.

 

SKATING NIGHT – Skating Night is tentatively scheduled for October 20th or 27th.  Trish Brinley noted that she will also put a note in the staff email about teachers attending this event.  Ticket sales occur the week prior to the event. 

 

YEARBOOK – Judy Henry reported that the first meeting will be 10/6 in the evening in the Large Group Instruction Room.  Yearbook meets every other Monday and then increases to every Monday.  This committee meets from October – March.  Volunteers are welcome!

 

FALL FUN FESTIVAL – Justine reported that there may be a contest in place of crafts this year.  Volunteers will likely be needed for scarecrow stuffing and dressing and for decorating.  Fall season decoration donations will also be needed. 

 

TEACHER APPRECIATION – This event is tentatively scheduled for 11/24.

 

JOE CORBI FUNDRAISER – Pickup for the fundraiser will be on 10/9.  Volunteers will be needed for this day.

 

HOLIDAY SHOP – Judy Henry reported that Holiday Shop will be returning to the elementary school for students to shop during class time.  A November timeframe is preferred if possible.  Trish Brinley again offered the help of 4th grade student to act as “ambassadors” to escort younger classes to the shop.  Thank you!

 

Becci Bell made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Kelly Andreus seconded.  All were in favor.  The meeting adjourned at 11:04 a.m.
