PARTNERS IN EDUCATION (PIE)
MINUTES OF MEETING – October 1, 2008
MINUTES FROM SEPTEMBER, 2008 – Those in attendance reviewed the minutes of the September, 2008 meeting. Kelly Andreus made a motion to accept, Becky Hancock seconded. All were in favor.
TREASURER’S REPORT – Mary Norman reviewed the treasurer’s report. Jen Rader made a motion to accept, Jen Bernhard seconded. All were in favor.
MRS. BERLET– Trisha Brinley read notes from Mrs. Berlet, including an apology for missing the meeting. Notes included a message hoping all of us would be able to attend open house. She will be doing a short talk and a video. She is hoping to have homeroom parents in place by the end of October. A meeting will be held for all interested parents. Parents interested in helping with copying should contact Karen Wallace.
MRS HANLON – Mrs. Hanlon discussed this year’s author visit, to occur March 5th. The author is a popular one this year, to be kept “top secret” until announcement is made to student. There will be a program for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades and 3rd and 4th grades. There will be a pre-sale of autographed books. Cost is $1800 plus the cost of 1 hotel night and gas. PIE has allocated $900 for this event and pays for catered lunch with the author.
UPCOMING EVENTS –
BOXTOPS – Maggi Daly reported that a meeting was held last week and it was decided that a goal should be set for the $$ raised by this fundraiser. Noel McDonnell has agreed to be the Kindergarten coordinator for boxtops, and she reviewed the reward program that will be in place monthly and quarterly as well as new boxtops folders and worksheets that will be distributed to the Kindergarten students. First collection for this year will be October 10.
MARKET DAY –
SKATING NIGHT – The cost of skates was raised to $2.50 for quads and $3.50 for in-lines. Tickets will be sold for $2.00. It costs $150 to rent the
YEARBOOK – The first meeting for yearbook will be at 6:30 pm on 10/6 in the large group instruction room. The theme this year is “passport to learning”. Meetings generally last 2-3 hours every Monday. Picture takers will be needed throughout the year.
FALL FUN FESTIVAL – Justine reported that there will be a class craft involving stuffing and dressing scarecrows rather than the traditional individual crafts. Volunteers will be needed for scarecrow assembly. Some of the scarecrows will stay on the district campus, while others will be donated to local nursing homes and businesses. The food drive will be chaired by a high school student for her senior project.
TEACHER APPRECIATION – This event is tentatively scheduled for 11/24. Mary Norman will send an email to all interested for food contributions and set-up/clean-up crew volunteers.
STUDENT DIRECTORY – This project is still up in the air. The office is having difficulty locating the inclusion form.
CLOTHING DRIVE – Maggi Daly reported that this fundraiser will take place on November 21, 22, 24, 25 and 26. Follow up with Mrs. Berlet will be needed to confirm location/pick-up details.
JOE CORBI FUNDRAISER – Pickup for the fundraiser will be on 10/9. Volunteers will be needed for this day.
SEPTEMBER EVENTS
KIDSTUFF BOOKS – 182 books were sold, only 4 free books were given away. $4,450 worth of books were sold, with PIE benefiting ½ of that total. Books are still for sale. PIE also raised $87.50 in donations from this event.
PICTURE DAY – All went smoothly for this event.
BOOK FAIR – It was reported that this event is coming along well, and Joell was quoted as saying that this was the easiest year to schedule so far.
ROUNDTABLE
The author visit is traditionally budgeted by PIE for $900.00 plus approximately $265.00 for lunch. Maggi Daly made a motion to raise this amount to $1,000.00 plus the cost of lunch. All were in favor.
Becky Hancock made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Maggi Daly seconded. All were in favor. The meeting adjourned at 10:35 a.m.
