PARTNERS IN EDUCATION (PIE)

MINUTES OF MEETING – November 5, 2008

 

Judy Henry called the meeting to order at 6:37 p.m.  In attendance were:  Rebecca Bell, Jen Lowthert, Wendy Wolbert, Becky Hancock,  Heather Hancharik, Jill Berlet, Mary Norman, Judy Henry, Justine Bachman, Stacy Hein.

 

MINUTES FROM OCTOBER, 2008 – Those in attendance reviewed the minutes of the October, 2008 meeting.  Becci Bell made a motion to accept, Becky Hancock seconded.  All were in favor.

 

TREASURER’S REPORT – Mary Norman reviewed the treasurer’s report.  Becky Hancock made a motion to accept, Becky Bell seconded.  All were in favor.

 

MRS. BERLET– Mrs. Berlet thanked all for the help with Fall Fun Festival.  She discussed a plan for having a parent visitation and language arts presentation the week of November 18th.  More information will follow.  She is still working on copy helpers.  She is hoping to have 1-2 per grade level in place, 3 volunteers are available so far.  Homeroom parents are still in the planning stages as well.  A construction update included plans for the new library to be open the week after Thanksgiving.  The school is waiting on a certificate of occupancy before Mrs. Hanlon can move in.  Furniture is slated to be installed the week of November 17th.  The time capsule has been put in place and a dedication is planned for March 31, 2009.  Mr. Fies is writing a song to be sung by the students at the dedication.

 

UPCOMING EVENTS –

 

BOXTOPS – The next collection is November 7th.  The last submission of boxtops was October 31, with a check expected in January, 2009.

 

TEACHER CONFERENCE DINNER – The dinner is scheduled for 11/24.  An email will go out from Mary Norman within the next few days requesting food donations/help with set-up/clean-up.

 

CLOTHING DRIVE – Stacy Hein reported that a vendor from previous years will be returning this year due to scheduling difficulties with last year’s vendor.  Dates for donations will coincide with parent/teacher conferences as in the past.  Volunteers are needed for collection times.

 

MOVIE NIGHT – Mrs. Berlet reported that a movie being considered for Movie Night is Kung Fu Panda.  A hat/mitten drive may be kicked off at this event.  Ticket sales will take place the week prior and popcorn and water will be sold at the event.

 

HOLIDAY SHOP – Judy Henry reported that dates will be 12/8 – 12/11 for Holiday Shop.  A sign-in sheet was circulated for volunteers for these dates and for inventory, set-up and clean-up.  The same vendor as used in past years will be used for this year’s event.

 

 

 

 

OCTOBER EVENTS -

 

MARKET DAY – Mary Norman reported that Market Day for this month was another success, with 78 orders totaling $660.  Thank you to all the volunteers who power this great fundraiser!

 

SKATING NIGHT – Becky Hancock reported that skating night went well – the event was a great success!  Thank you, Becky!

 

YEARBOOK – Judy Henry reported that the yearbook is coming along well, meetings are now held every Monday night at 6:30 PM.

 

JOE CORBI – Judy Henry thanked all the volunteers who helped make the Joe Corbi pick-up day a success.

 

OPEN HOUSE – This event went well, Judy thanked all for the donations of baked goods and help with the sales.

 

FALL FUN FESTIVAL – Justine Bachman reported that this event was a lot of fun for all involved.  Lots of great pictures were taken for the yearbook.  Justine asked for feedback from anyone regarding the vendors that were popular, and any that would be preferred for future festivals.  She also invited any interested individuals to join next year’s committee. 

 

ROUNDTABLE

 

A voucher program was discussed for Holiday Shop.  The possibility of creating an opt-out on the flyer sent home to parents was introduced by Becky Hancock. 

 

Heather Hancharik made a motion to adjourn the meeting, Wendy Wolbert seconded.  All were in favor.  The meeting adjourned at 7:15 PM.
