About Mrs. Mertz
I am thrilled to be a teacher! Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to be a teacher. "Playing school" was one of my favorite things to do when I was little. Now I don't have to "play school" anymore; it has become a reality for me!
In 1998, I started teaching kindergarten at Northwestern Lehigh Elementary School. After a year in kindergarten, I taught second grade for 4 years. Then from 2003 to 2011 I taught first grade. At the beginning of the 2011-12 school year, I moved back to teaching 2nd grade. I taught 2nd grade for another 4 years, and this year (2016-2017) I will be teaching 4th grade for the first time! I am excited for the challenge that a new grade provides. I look forward to using my previous experiences and knowledge about how children learn to help each child succeed in my classroom!
I currently live in Northwestern Lehigh School district with my husband and two sons, Caden and Cole. Caden was born in September 2005 and Cole was born in April 2009. Caden and Cole are both currently a student at Northwestern Elementary. I am so blessed to have my child attend the school where I work!
Believe it or not, teachers actually DO have lives outside of school. In my free time, I like to spend time with my family, do aerobics, go running, and my favorite-scrapbook! Any activities that lead to pictures for me to scrapbook are awesome! I LOVE to take pictures of my kids at home and my students at school.
In 1997 I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Kindergarten Education from Penn State University. My husband also graduated from Penn State. We continue to enjoy visiting Penn State as we are able (schedules with two young boys are quite busy!). We both continue to "bleed blue and white" and we believe our sons will too!
In 2003 I also earned my Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in Classroom Technology from Wilkes University. I enjoy learning about new technology and how to implement it into my teaching experiences. I am excited about having a Promethean Board in my classroom and all of the opportunities that it allows for students. I invite anyone to come in and see how myself and my students use it in a lesson! It's awesome! I am also excited to have each student use a ChromeBook this year as well. I believe we will do some great things in our classroom this year!
