NWL Digital Academy Family/Student Guidelines & Expectations
Due to the nature of online learning, families and students must understand the additional responsibilities placed on them regarding a student’s education. Therefore, Northwestern Lehigh School District expects a commitment from the family as outlined below.
- Develop a Schedule: Help the student to develop regular daily and weekly habits for working online. It is best to keep their schedule similar to what they would experience in our buildings in most circumstances.
- Follow the Calendar: Parents/students should follow the approved school district calendar to determine school days and days off.
- For eBridge students, please be sure to follow the eBridge calendar (this may be slightly different than the school district calendar).
- Attendance: Ensure that the student logs in every school day and spends at least 5 hours working on school assignments (online or offline).
- If a student cannot log on for 5 hours daily, an excuse of absence is required. Please submit excuses to digacademy@nwlehighsd.org.
- Failure to log in on scheduled school days will count as an absence and may result in truancy charges against a parent and student.
- Students are required to complete enrolled courses in their entirety within the specified time allotted.
- Attending LCTI: Unless LCTI has granted a special exemption, High School students attending LCTI MUST ride the bus from our high school. Please report to the front of the HS at the following times on days that LCTI is in session:
- AM LCTI: 7:45 AM
- PM LCTI: 10:40 AM
- Course Content Help: Contact the Course Instructor with questions or concerns about assignments within a course.
- Technology Help:
- Email helpdesk@nwlehighsd.org for any issues with your laptop or Chromebook or if you have problems accessing the website or videos within your courses.
- Notify the curriculum provider and/or the school district of any difficulties connecting to the curriculum delivery system.
- Student Removal from Program: A student may be asked to return to the school in person if they do not attend or participate regularly in the online program, if they are found to be involved in academic impropriety, such as cheating or plagiarism, or if they are not successful in the online program.
- Transferring to Buildings: If you plan to have the student transfer back to the school building before the end of the school year, it is best to do so at the end of any marking period. Please give the school district at least two weeks’ notice.
- Parental Expectations: A parent’s role in online education is essential due to the increased autonomy and self-motivation required to be successful in an online program. Please plan to take an active part in your child’s online education.
- State Assessments: Digital Academy students must come into the building to take PSSAs and/or Keystone Exams, depending on the student’s grade or courses. Digital academy students may also be asked to come into the building for other tests as necessary.
