Safety Overview

Maintaining a safe learning environment is one of Northwestern Lehigh School District's highest priorities. This page provides an overview of the safety and security protocols we utilize to keep our students and staff safe throughout the year.

Police Department

The Northwestern Lehigh School District Police was established in 2018 as part of the District’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and security of the students, faculty, staff and visitors to our District. The Department currently consists of both School Police Officers and School Security Officers to accomplish this mission.

Lead by Chief Kevin Birosik, the District School Police Officers have full police powers for any incidents that occur on District grounds, to include school transportation vehicles while carrying students to and from school. Click the "Police Department" link on the left to learn more.

Standard Response Protocol

The district utilizes the nationally-recognized Standard Response Protocol (SRP) from the ilove u guys Foundation to provide a uniform classroom response to an incident at school. Weather events, fires, accidents, intruders, and other threats to student safety are scenarios that are planned and trained for by district administration so students and staff can respond with confidence.

The SRP is based on the following actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. See poster below for a full description of each action.

Active Threat Protocol - Run Hide Fight

In conjunction with our use of the Standard Response Protocol, staff and students are provided with age appropraite training in the Option-Based Response active threat protocol Run Hide Fight. The best option is dependent upon the information received and stimulus experienced by an individual at the time.
